Personality:

Kurai is known for her detached and inexpressive behavior. To many she seems cold and heartless but what lies behind her tough fighting exterior is a loving nature but only to the one’s she trusts. Which are very few. Her punkish image suits her character very well she knows well who she is and doesn’t let anyone under her skin. Much like her brother, she has a fighter by nature. And if you were to ask the commoners of Ikebukuro, they would most likely tell you she is not one to be messed with. When pushed to a certain point she can release her anger on anyone around her without care. But one of the most interesting things she enjoys is messing with people’s heads, just to see how they work and what they are capable of.
One of the many reasons she and Izaya became friends was because of their twisted ways of wanting to figure out more about the human race. But deep down Kurai always wanted at least one person who understood the way she was, and that was Izaya.

Background

Kurai Heiwajima, also called Tatakau by her brothers and Izaya, is a self-employed private detective. She is widely known for her work and often carries out missions with little sympathy. To the world around her she means trouble if you cross her and will not put on an image for anyone. Staying true to herself is one of her best and worst qualities. Mostly, she is a cold and ruthless fighter when it comes down to it, but she very rarely loses her temper. The exact opposite of her twin brother Shizuo. She keeps a cool head, and is very calm about usually extreme situations. She moved to Romania after graduating high school in search of a job, she found herself staying there until four years later when she returned to her hometown in Japan. She soon became a self-employed private investigator trough Japan’s main investigating company. After living in the shadows of Ikebukuro for a year she finally made contact with the outside world. That “outside world” being her old friend from high school.
Kurai is not one to trust people or help them. There are only three people she looks out for, her only friend and her brothers. She is unusually easy going around Izaya and shows her emotions more often around him. If the situation calls for it she will not hold back her fighting skills, even if she doesn’t lose her temper.

Izaya Orihara is one of three of the few people she trusts, the others being her twin brother, her younger brother Kasuka, Shinra and her and Izaya were “partners” in high school, in two ways. Partners in crime, wherever one went, the other wasn’t far behind. Quite frequently, they were seen scheming something far too complex for the average mortal’s mind, and much to Shizuo’s displeasure, were never seen without each other. They were also friends with benefits, why? Because neither of them thought love existed just physical attraction. Which they had with each other and they didn’t want anything changing between them but mainly because they both were just fine with being friends with a secret hidden behind a black curtain.

Her emotions are hidden behind crimson eyes, and what lies within her heart is the will of a fighter.
